Outside of Blackfoot,
A couple in a diner is
Sharing a fresh cup of coffee
In imitation china.
She looks at him
And he looks at her.
"I miss old victor mugs," he says.
Not caring what he prefers
She asks “When can we go?”
He swears and says “Just give me a minute,”
finishes the coffee and doesn’t leave a tip.
Those little moments.
A thousand cuts.
If you look real close you can see the rise and fall of us.
Out on the road
Driving down 15;
Looking out the window but not seeing anything.
“I thought Idaho was supposed to be nice?" She says.
He shrugs “Hell, I don’t know.
I guess there’ll be enough to do when we get to where we’re goin."
